Product information

RFID and Barcoding are a natural fit for access control solutions. Using these technologies provides quick and reliable verification of access rights, making them ideal for workplace and leisure environments with high footfall.

Public venues as diverse as swimming pools and exhibition halls require controlled access. The general public are likely to have downloaded their bar-coded e-ticket or received a paper ticket as they entered the venue, and these are typically scanned at the automated entrance gates. But the story is different for those who work there and required daily access. Their identity passes in many cases will be supplied with an RFID chip for access and free movement around the venue. The same might be true for members of a swimming pool or sports facility, or those with season tickets, for example.

To avoid having two types of access control systems, QUAD OEM has developed a solution whereby an NFC reader can be attached to the Zebra MS47x7 cone 2D scanner. Read distances vary dependent on the type of material that the RFID reader is embedded in, but typically from 3cm for a plastic housing and 1cm for metal. This simple but highly effective solution can reduce the total cost of ownership of automated access control by bringing two technologies together within one form factor.
