TRITON – The future of industrial automation

Yaskawa's profichip® TRITON combines industrial Gigabit Ethernet communication, a fast and reliable backplane system, a powerful multi-core processor and low power dissipation in an innovative all-in-one solution.

Equipped with a powerful 3-core architecture, the TRITON delivers superior single-thread performance for demanding PLC, motion, and robotics tasks, setting new standards for high-speed computing, real-time industrial communication, and secure encryption. Supported by 64-bit floating-point coprocessors and a generous L2 cache, the TRITON ensures that computationally intensive processes can be executed quickly, accurately and deterministically.

The TRITON chip is equipped with four real-time Gigabit Ethernet ports that support Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). These ports can be configured either independently or as a switch to provide maximum network design flexibility. With support for a wide range of fieldbuses and Ethernet protocols – including PROFINET IRT, EtherCAT, MECHATROLINK, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS and CAN – the TRITON is ideal for use in networked automation applications.

The integrated backplane bus master, in combination with the slave ASICs also available from Yaskawa, makes it easy to set up a modular I/O system. The high integration density with numerous technology functions significantly reduces the number of components required and allows for a compact and cost-efficient implementation of the I/O modules.

High-speed extensions can be connected with high bandwidth via three integrated PCIe controllers in the TRITON. Up to four PCIe lanes offer a wide range of possibilities, for example for additional interfaces, high-speed I/O modules or dedicated hardware accelerators. The chip can be used as a root complex (RC) or end point (EP) in PCIe configurations, making it highly flexible in use.

Integrated security features such as secure boot, AES-256 hardware acceleration and an eFuse array for secure on-chip storage of unique serial numbers and cryptographic keys help to ensure that sensitive data is fully protected at all times. The non-deterministic random number generator and the IOMPU (memory protection for I/O devices) provide additional protection, even in safety-critical applications.

The TRITON is not only powerful, but also extremely energy efficient. Thanks to smart power management, neither an active cooling system nor a heat sink is required. This significantly reduces the space required, making the TRITON an ideal solution for compact control systems. The integrated backplane master and the Ethernet PHYs also reduce hardware costs without compromising on performance.

Yaskawa also offers comprehensive support for a fast time-to-market: short delivery times, flexible hardware options and a complete automation ecosystem from a single source – from processors to Ethernet and fieldbus controllers to backplane ASICs. The profichip® TRITON is the perfect choice for companies that rely on flexible and future-proof solutions in industrial control and drive technology.
